Valeska Scardi completed her undergraduate degree in American Studies at the University of Leipzig in 2021. Throughout her BA studies, she completed an internship at the Goethe Institut in Chicago. While in Chicago multiple times, she immersed herself into the House dance community. Inspired by the people, she organized an exchange that invited dancers from Chicago to a three-day dance event including panel discussions, workshops, a film documentary, and the "Style Wild" Battle in Leipzig. Hence, her interests throughout her BA included literature and music, specifically Hip Hop, House, Techno, and the roots in queer, African American, and Latinx culture. Looking at rap and its politics, her BA thesis centered around Kendrick Lamar’s DAMN. She decided to pursue the path with a Masters in American Studies at the University of Leipzig to continue research in music culture, literature, and politics. Furthermore, she aims to include scholarship on intersectional feminism and care politics.
