Anke Geertsma has completed her BA and MA in American studies at the University of Groningen, and it is her ambition to continue her education at the PhD level. Her research interests are in contemporary literature, trauma, and human rights. For future research, she would like to combine the fields of memory studies and human rights theory to analyze the responses of a new generation of American writers to global conflicts and crises. She feels that such an analysis would contribute to the characterization of our globalizing, post-September 11 world and its cultural ‘condition.’ Geertsma loves to travel, dance, and read. Currently, she is reading Nicole Krauss’s latest novel Great House, and is excited to see the next episode of Dexter.
