Between 2001 and 2008, Mirko Martin studied Fine Arts at the Braunschweig University of Art, graduating in 2007 and becoming a Meisterschüler with Prof. Michael Brynntrup in 2008. During a year abroad at the California Institute of the Arts in 2005/06, he started working on the photo series entitled L.A. Crash, which he has continued since and which consists of over fifty photographs today. He is primarily interested in the communication between the work and the observer: Can we really trust our own perceptions? He wants to explore a skepticism about the image production process and pass this on to the observer. This year, his L.A. Crash series is on display in the Photoforum PasquArt, Biel/Bienne, Switzerland and at the Kunsthaus Essen, along with other locations.
