Vanessa Arnold

Having completed her undergraduate degree in American Studies at the University of Leipzig in 2018, Vanessa decided to enter the ASL MA class of 2020 to deepen her knowledge of American history, politics and culture. After traveling to the Philippines multiple times during her undergraduate studies, Vanessa developed a profound interest in intercultural relations and postcolonial studies. This interest eventually culminated in her BA thesis on "The Effects of American Imperialism on The Philippines: Pinoy White Skin Obsession." As for her endeavors in the MA program, Vanessa intends to further explore different aspects of transnational relations as well as focus on fields, such as queer studies, that she has not extensively worked with during her previous studies.
